Ondo state police command confirmed the death of four persons and several others who sustained varying degrees of injury in a road accident, which occurred on Thursday.
The crash occurred at the Oyoyo Camp, Ipele, on the Owo-Benin Expressway in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to an eyewitness, the crash occurred around 1pm and involved a Toyota bus with number plate MKD 341 XA; which was conveying 18 passengers, and a Peugeot J5 bus with number plate BDG 330 AP.
Reports say that the Toyota bus was heading for Makurdi, Benue State; while the Peugeot J5 bus was heading for Akure from Benin, Edo State.

“The two buses collided and immediately caught fire. While the other passengers escaped being burnt, the four unlucky ones were burnt beyond recognition,” the eyewitness stated.
Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Femi Joseph; said the injured victims taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo; while the remains of the deceased deposited in the morgue of the same hospital.
“A case of head-on collision between the two vehicles involved in the accident. We could not get the names and addresses of the drivers of both vehicles,” Joseph stated.

Also confirming the accident, the Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide; said immediately it occurred, men of the corps moved to the scene and took the victims to hospital.
He said the cause of the accident was the violation of the speed limit by the drivers of both vehicles.
“Four people burnt to death, while 14 were injured; and have been taken to the hospital,” Ogungbemide added.
