Road accident: Three pupils feared dead in Ekiti

 

Three school pupils were feared dead on Friday after a mini-bus popularly known as ‘Akoto’ crushed them at the Ilokun area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

1st News learnt that three other pupils were also injured when the bus going towards Ado Ekiti from the Ekiti State University; end of Ado-Iworoko Road hit the pupils, who were reportedly returning from school.

Sources said the incident happened at about 2.30 pm at the Abattoir area of Ilokun.

According to eyewitnesses, the pupils attempted to cross the road; when the bus crushed them.

A source said, “The victims and the injured have been taken to hospital. It was a sad incident as motorists, passers-by; and perhaps families of the victims wept profusely at the scene.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu, could not be reached; as newsmen tried to speak with him via his mobile phone. It was switched off.

Also, spokesperson for Ekiti State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mohammed Olowo, said the corps were unaware; about the accident.

“The FRSC has not been briefed, but we are going to mobilise our men to that axis to confirm what happened,” he added.
