Buhari inaugurates Onnoghen as acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated Justice Walter Onnoghen as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

This is following the retirement of Justice Mahmud Mohammed at the attainment of the mandatory 70 years’ retirement age. Onnoghen is expected to act until the name of substantive CJN is forwarded to the Senate and it is confirmed. Read more

Lagosians consume N3bn food daily- Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday said that investors willing to do business in the agric sector in the State can be rest assured of a ready market and returns on investment as the daily consumption of food items in the State is worth over N3billion daily.

Court grants Fani-Kayode N50m bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday granted bail to a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani- Kayode, in the sum of N50m after he was arraigned on five counts of N26m fraud.

Fani-Kayode, a Director of Media and Publicity in the campaign organisation of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, pleaded not guilty to all the five counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Read more

N8bn CBN scam: Fresh application for plea bargain stalls trial 

Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Thursday adjourned till Dec. 6 hearing on the plea bargain process between Olunike Afolabi and the EFCC in the ongoing N8 billion CBN currency scam case. Afolabi, Kolawole Babalola, Adeola Olaniran, Philip Togun and Adewale Ademola along with others had since 2015 been standing trial over multiple charges bordering on conspiracy, forgery, stealing and recirculation of N8 billion, property of CBN.

Abdulmaleek adjourned the case to allow Afolabi and the EFCC conclude all the processes involved in the plea bargain arrangement. She said the adjournment would also allow the charge sheets to be amended to reflect the current realities. Read more

Banker docked over alleged theft of employer’s N810,000 

For allegedly stealing N810,000 from her employer, a 33-year-old banker, Ebere Okeke, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides at A19, Kajola St., Governor Road, Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a count charge. Read more

President of the Senate, Senator Olubukola Saraki, has appealed to the Ghanaian Parliament to review the $120 Residency Fee imposed on Nigerians living in Ghana.

Soldier kidnapped as he leaves bank

A soldier, Musa Lawal, attached to the 13th Brigade of the Nigerian Army was on Thursday kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the busy Calabar Road in Calabar, Cross River State.

Appeals to Supreme Court need constitutional amendment – Ex-CJN

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, on Thursday called for a constitutional amendment to reduce appeals to the Supreme Court.

Lawyer’s illness stalls Dudafa’s N5.1bn fraud trial 

The scheduled trial of a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, for alleged N5.1bn fraud was stalled on Thursday due to the absence of his lawyer, Mr. Gboyega Oyewole.
