The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has attributed the current economic crisis faced in the country to what he termed “easy choices made by former President Goodluck Jonathan.”

He made this assertion yesterday dur­ing the child dedication service of a member of the House, Olusegun Ode­bunmi, at The Citi­zens Church, TCC, Abuja, where he called on Nigerians, particularly Christians, to pray for God’s intervention in the country’s affairs. Read more

Military carries out combat arms training in Bauchi, urges residents not to panic

The Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Bauchi, says it has completed arrangements to host Combat Arms Training scheduled to hold from May 30 to June 4.

A statement from Capt. Victor Olukoya, the Corps Assistant Director in charge of Public Relations, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Sunday, indicates that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, will declare the training open. Read more

37-yr-old man jailed 6 months for touching girl’s breast
An Ikeja magistrate’s Court, weekend, sentenced a 37-year-old man, Ibrahim Abu, to six months imprisonment for touching the breast of a 17-year-old girl (names withheld) without her consent. Abu, who lives at 6, Mosque Close, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State, was arraigned before Magistrate Osusanmi and sentenced last Friday for sexually assaulting the girl Monday last week. Read more

Suspect steals motorcycle during Foursquare Sunday service

The congregation at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Magboro, Ogun State, were stunned on Sunday after a suspected thief sneaked into the church and stole a motorcycle belonging to one of the worshippers.

The younger sister of late Mrs. Roseline Sougie, who was allegedly killed by her husband of 26 years, says the suspect nearly beat her to death sometime in 2015.

Gunmen murder oldest man, 7 others in Rivers community

Unknown gunmen invaded Ozochi community in Ahoada East Local Government of Rivers State over the weekend and killed eight persons, including the oldest man in the village. Many houses, shops and other properties were destroyed by the gunmen.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East LGA, Mr. Britain Ewor, who confirmed the incident, described those behind it as enemies of the local government area and the entire state. Read more

Banks stop international transactions on ATMs over ‘EFCC harassment’

Some banks in the country have made real their threat to suspend international transactions on Naira and Dollar denominated ATM cards. This followed the earlier protest of the harassment of their staff by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
