Senegal will turn to witch-doctors for assistance to hasten Sadio Mane’s rehabilitation in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Bayern Munich star was ruled out of the World Cup after picking up an injury during the Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen on Tuesday night. He was taken off after just 20 minutes, with Leroy Sane taking his place. Sadio Mane sits on the ground after getting injured against Werder Bremen.
However, Senegalese-born Fatma Samoura, the General Secretary of FIFA, has revealed plans to enlist witch doctors in the player’s care.
“We are going to use witch doctors,” she said.
“I don’t know (if they’re effective) but in this instance, we’re going to use them anyway. We are hoping for miracles. He has to be there!”
Mane’s availability for the tournament remains a doubt and a huge blow for the African Champions.
If the Bayern Munich forward is sent to the World Cup, he will likely arrive in bad physical shape and with minimal preparation. He won’t be playing against Schalke on Saturday, the Bavarian club confirmed in a statement yesterday. To ascertain the entire extent of the injuries, additional tests are also anticipated in the upcoming days.
Sadio Mane faces a challenging decision over whether to rush back for a historic tournament performance at the expense of jeopardizing his physical health in the latter stages of his career.
Meanwhile, Senegal have been drawn in Group A alongside host Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands.
