Suspected hoodlums abduct 40 worshippers in Katsina Mosque

Hoodlums suspected to be bandits on Monday morning, May 10, attacked a Mosque in Kwata, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

1st News learned that the bandits in the Katsina mosque attack abducted over 40 worshippers.

Reports have it that the incident occurred at about 12 am on Monday morning during the Laylatul Qadr prayer.

The Laylatul Qadr prayer which is the Night of Decree or Night of Power is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar.

Confirming the attack, the Katsina state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Gambo Ishaka said that 30 of the abductees have been rescued by the joint security operatives.

Ishaka said “The report is true. Hoodlums attacked a Mosque in Kwata and abducted over 40 persons but we were able to rescue 30 of them.

“But these remaining ten, I can not vividly say they are kidnapped or probably ran somewhere within the location for safety during the attack.

“It was after we conducted headcount this morning that we discovered that about ten villagers are still missing.

“But hopefully, we are going to find them. The operation is still ongoing.

“As I’m speaking to you, military and police are after these hoodlums, we have found out that they are heading towards Ambe and Tumburun in Zamfara State which is the hideout of the criminal elements.

“Investigation is on top gear to ensure the remaining ten are rescued and the criminals are brought to book.

“No life was lost during the attack”.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Government, on Sunday, May 9, berated the South East chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); for faulting the inauguration of the state chapter of Ebubeagu, a joint security outfit for the zone.

1st News also learned that the PDP, in a communiqué after its meeting in Enugu two weeks ago; alleged among other things that Ebonyi Governor David Umahi recruited his political thugs into the outfit, not to protect the citizens but to use them against opposition politicians in the state.

However, the state government, in a reaction, said the communique exposed the incompetence of the opposition party; and its leaders in the zone.

This was issued by the Ebonyi Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji; who said the rejection of PDP and their leaders in the state was total and irredeemable.

Orji also warned leaders of the party to stop hiding under the platform of South East PDP; to issue false and misleading communique against the government.
