Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha Akide has revealed on the microblogging site, Twitter that she is prepared to engage in the #EndSARS protest that was earlier banned by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
On Monday, October 12, Nyesom Wike issued a warning regarding the call for the disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad, SARS, of the Nigerian police force.
This mandate comes after days of sustained #EndSARS protests across the country over reports of brutality, harassment; as well as extrajudicial killings by SARS operatives.
Despite the caution from the state governor, Tacha who participated in the 2019 Big Brother Naija edition has stated that she is in Port Harcourt for the protest. According to the 24-year-old reality star, she arrived in Port Harcourt from Lagos on Monday evening simply because she wanted to campaign against the Police force.
She stated that she is unafraid; and also she admonished her fellow natives to gear up for the protest scheduled to take place at Pleasure Park around 9 am on Tuesday, October 13.
Reacting to Nyesom Wike’s statement on Twitter, Tacha wrote;
“With all Due respect your Excellency, you are a lawyer and I believe you know better; this is a DEMOCRACY SYSTEM and Rivers State belongs to all the Daughters and Sons of the state.
It is our RIGHT TO PEACEFULLY PROTEST AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY”
The outspoken reality star went on to recount how the indigenous people of Rivers State voted the Governor into power.
