Tambuwal implores Senate to ensure electoral reforms

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has called on the National Assembly to consider electoral reforms and constitutional amendment.

Tambuwal made the call on Wednesday, August 14, in Sokoto, when he received the European Union Ambassador and Head of the delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Ketil Karsen, in Government House.

He said that the process would ensure that all the new innovations introduced in the current electoral process were captured constitutionally.

The governor further said that the process would give the legal framework that would go along in strengthening and deepening the nation’s democracy.

He said, “As a matter of urgency, NASS should consider starting the process of electoral reforms and constitutional amendments in the interest of the nation.”

In his remarks, Karsen called for peace and respect for the rule of law in the state and Nigeria in general, as according to him that was going to create the atmosphere needed for electoral reforms to thrive.

The EU envoy also discussed issues of health, education, environment and empowerment with Tambuwal during his visit, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
