Tinubu: Foremost online medium, CableNG under attack on Twitter for allegedly ‘laundering’ APC candidate’s image

Tinubu: Foremost online medium, CableNG under attack on Twitter for allegedly ‘laundering’ APC candidate’s image

The presidency candidacy of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, might be a hard sell to the youth demographics if events on Twitter are anything to go by.

1st News reports that a groundswell of criticism has trailed a Twitter Space hosted by Cable Nigeria, a foremost online medium.

Specifically, Twitter users allege that the session was hosted to launder the image of the former Governor of Lagos State. Consequently, a hashtag #CableExposed was on the Nigerian Twitter trends table, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022; as various Twitter users expressed their opinions on the recent controversy trailing Tinubu.

Equally important, Tinubu’s age has been a subject of controversy. In March 2021, when he celebrated his 69th birthday, screenshots of a Wikipedia page showing his date of birth as 29 March 1942 started circulating online.

That would have made him 79. Therefore, people inevitably started to claim he had shaved 10 years off his real age.

The Wikipedia screenshots and claims that Tinubu was an age cheat were posted on Twitter in response to a birthday tweet by Lagos governor Babajide Sanwa-Olu.

Also, the controversy resurfaced when he declared that he would run for president next year.

Nigeria is set to hold general elections in February 2023.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, September 5, 2022 said the recent visit of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; its 2023 Presidential Candidate to former President Goodluck Jonathan was a strategic move for national unity and cohesion.

Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary gave the explanation in a statement on Monday, September 5, 2022 in Abuja; adding that the move was worthy of commendation and emulation.

He said the alleged outburst against the visit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) betrayed its extreme hypocrisy and folly.

“Rattled by the recent statesmanly visit of our Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; the opposition PDP has hit the panic button in a false alarm, saying the move won’t help our candidate and party.

“Again, the PDP proves itself as a party afflicted with chronic myopia, lacking in vision and incapable of recognising the imperative of elevating the common good of our country above partisan quibbles,” Morka said.
