Toke Makinwa talks about her struggle with PTSD

Media personality, Toke Makinwa has opened up about her struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder.

 

Toke Makinwa took to Instagram to disclose her struggle with PTSD.

 

She then explained that her journey to healing required therapy.

The media personality shared a video of Oprah Winfrey addressing her tense relationship with her mother and how she struggled as a child who was not accepted because of the colour of her skin and her looks.

 

Equally important, PTSD is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

 

Toke added in the caption that everyone is struggling with something. She proceeded to share her own struggle.

A couple of months ago, Toka Makinwa spoke about how her parents had to be patient with her due to her mental health condition.

 

According to Toke, she was unable to concentrate in class when she was much younger. She stated that she went home with poor results and was unable to cope like her classmates due to her PTSD condition.

 

The media personality, Toke revealed in her 2016 non-fiction novel, Becoming that she lost both her biological parents in a gas explosion. She was 8 at the time.

 

Here is what she said.

”I was tough to raise, I suffered from PTSD that wasn’t dealt with early enough it manifested in different areas.

I didn’t apply myself to my books, skipped classes and was advised to withdraw; today I thank God Big mummy didn’t give up on me, she wasn’t the easiest but I am here”
