Toni Kan has been appointed Spokesperson to the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
And detractors on Twitter are not having it.
Popular opinion among the hundreds of tweets claim the award winning writer, Public Relations expert and media entrepreneur is an enemy of the APC – as well as the president.
Factually, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Toni Kan approaches problems with a method: shine a light on the solution of the problem, not just the problem. Thus, you’d find he is never content with people who criticise the job, but fall short on expounding on ways to do it better.
He took a dive into the Nigerian online media space when he launched SabiNews (now 1st News) which continues to set the pace in ethical as well as professional standards in the industry. That site became the first Nigerian news site to be acquired in Nigeria; underlining its success as well as ethical bonafides.
And it likewise remains outstanding under the masterful watch and guidance of its new owners.
Sensing a deep need for young Nigerian writers to be published and validated at home instead of abroad, Toni Kan also launched thelagosreview.ng to provide a space for young Nigerian writers to be published.
As to charges alluded above that Toni Kan is anti-APC and Buhari, it is mere hogwash.
Citing one memorable instance, equally important, would be his apt investigation into the accusation that First Lady, Aisha Buhari was being attacked at one point. A ridiculous fable which went on to include accusations of shutting down the Aso rock chapel. Toni Kan was the man who stepped up; and he shone light on the true state of affairs with a comprehensive report which quelled the cacophony.
Read the article here where he writes: “Sitting on the chair he has offered me, I take a few more shots and as I rise to leave I wonder where the story about the chapel being turned into a spa came from and what I would do if I was the president and the chapel was sitting that close to my wife’s residence.
“Knowing myself, I would never allow the chapel or children’s church to sit so close to her bedroom and kitchen and this is a Christian speaking.”
Having taken these and many more unaccommodated here into perspective, the question to ask is this: is Toni Kan qualified to be media aide or not?
The answer is a BIG yes.
And if more reasons were to be lended…

By taking this job, he means to do good instead of sitting on the sidelines and playing arm chair critic.
