Uzodimma dissolves 27 IMC chairmen, says LG election to hold soon

Gov. Hope Uzodimma on Thursday, July 21, dissolved the 27-man Interim Management Committee Chairmen of Local Governments.

The Chief Press to the governor, Mr Oguike Nwachukwu, announced the dissolution to newsmen after a closed-door meeting with the Chairmen at the Government House, Owerri.

He said that Uzodimma thanked them for the services they rendered in their different local government areas since their appointment, especially their loyalty.

He also reminded them of his resolve to hold the Local Government election in Imo any moment from now.

The statement said Governor Uzodimma would appoint Sole Administrators to oversee the council pending the conduct of the elections.

He also told the dissolved IMC Chairmen that his government would not hesitate to engage their services in other areas’ particularly if they were found capable as APC members.

Responding, the Chairman of the dissolved IMC; Mr Willie Okoliogo from Oru West Council promised that they would remain loyal to the governor; as well as the APC in spite of the dissolution.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has been advised by Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom to meet with and persuade his rivals, including Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and others, over the challenges plaguing the country and the need for a consensus.

Ortom made this call on Thursday, July 21, during an interview on Arise TV.

“If God decides that it is him (Obi), nobody can stop him. If God decides that it is somebody else, nobody can also stop him. So, this is a very welcome development,” Ortom said.

“… I believe even other presidential candidates, of the various political parties; in the PDP, in the APC and NNPP…I believe he should be able to reach out to them to sit down with them, analyse the Nigerian situation; see if he can convince them to even step down for him because there is provision if they do that. That can work.

“Let us be seen as putting Nigeria first. So far, I commend his efforts.”
