Wike sheathes sword, ready to cooperate after Buhari approves refund of N78.9bn spent on Federal roads

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the refunds of N78.9bn spent on Federal Government road projects in the state.

Wike made this known in a personally signed statement released on Monday, June 29.

1st News reports that Wike had been at daggers-drawn with the Federal Government recently. He has publicly criticised President Buhari on a number of occasions; especially after he accused the FG of flouting the lockdown imposed on the state to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Also, the Rivers helmsman appreciated the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; as well as members of the Federal Executive Council for the roles played in the approval.

‘‘I wish to on behalf of the Government and people of Rivers State appreciate and most sincerely thank you; for graciously approving the refund of the sum of 78.9 billion naira to Rivers State Government; as cost of the execution of Federal Government Road projects in Rivers State. Let me also through you thank the Vice President, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo GCON; as well as other members of the Federal Executive Council for the support they provided for our request.’’

Rivers State Wike and Buhari

Wike noted that the gesture had demonstrated Buhari’s love for the government and people of Rivers State. Also, he noted that the move had shown that he is indeed a President of every state and Nigerians.

Equally important, he expressed his determination to work with the Federal Government; even as he urged Buhari to visit the state.

‘‘I assure you that Rivers State Government is willing and ever ready to cooperate and partner with the Federal Government to advance the development aspirations of Rivers State in particular, and our nation in general. I wish to therefore appeal to Mr President to kindly obliged us a State visit; when invited to see what we have accomplished for the state and our people with the money.

‘‘Once again, thank you Mr President, and please, be assured of our profound esteem, as always,” the statement concluded.
