Nigerian singer-songwriter, Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid will receive a Grammy award for his contribution to Beyonce’s 2019 smash hit, ‘Brown Skin Girl.
Wizkid joined fellow Afrobeats artiste, Burna Boy in winning an award for the night.
On Sunday, March 14, 2021, the Afrobeats artiste, Wizkid won ‘Best Music Video’ for his role on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ at the 63rd Grammy Award.
The singer won the award alongside American songstress, Beyonce; who owns the song and featured artistes, Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy. The award will also go to Jenn Nkiru who directed the music video.
The music video for “Brown Skin Girl” was featured in Beyoncé’s 2020 film Black Is King and was released separately on August 24, 2020.
Directed by Beyoncé and Jenn Nkiru, the video acts as a celebration as well as affirmation of the beauty of dark-skinned women.
As of the time of this win, the video has over 31 million views on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Afrobeats singer, Burna Boy also won Best Global Music Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
His album Twice as Tall won the award over records by Antibalas (FU Chronicles); Bebel Gilberto (Agora); Anoushka Shankar (Love Letters), as well as Tinariwen (Amadjar).
The announcement was made at the premiere of the 2021 edition of the Grammy Awards in Santa Monica.
The win marks Burna Boy’s first Grammy Award after being nominated last year.
Burna Boy’s win is Nigeria’s first since Sikiru Adepoju won with Planet Drum over 10 years ago.
